Paralyzed by options

I sold a bigg-ish card and now I have cardmoney™, but there are so many things I need/want that I’ve paralyzed myself with choices.

Tony from Cousin’s Collectibles spoke earlier this week on The Wolfpack Podcast about funding his hobby. I can relate.

“I have to fill my piggy bank before I can go buy another card,” he said. “That in itself slows me down bigtime.”

Amen.

I think about it constantly. I’m terrified what my Screentime will be. This much planning wasn’t put into the D-Day invasion.

Here are my options, and remember I have three kids approaching college age. I work within an inflexible budget:

1. A scarce serial-numbered card that only pops up 1-2 times a year that I need for a run. This would be the no-brainer choice, but the seller is asking an insane amount and wrote in his ad to not contact him with offers.

2. A high-end (by my budget) card I’ve spied for months, but if I buy it then I won’t be able to afford the aforementioned serial-numbered card if the seller actually drops his price. Which would be devastating.

3. 2-3 medium-end cards that would leave me with enough funds to buy the scarce card if the price drops. But if I do this, am I letting impatience get the best of me?

4. Start a new PC by grabbing a high-end card I previously didn’t think was attainable. This seems like a short-sighted idea. Fun, but short sighted.

It’s Day 6 of this conflict, which in hobby time feels like years. It’s the definition of a first-world problem. I realize that. Still, it’s a problem
